- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -

October 24, 2023 - Filipino Bayanihan Center and Talilo Marfil unveil Portland’s first mural dedicated to Filipino History.

On November 4, Talilo Marfil, one of Portland’s top up and coming Hip Hop Emcees, and the Filipino Bayanihan Center (FBC), the first Filipino migrant resource service center in Oregon for overseas Filipino workers and Philippine nationals, will be collaborating to throw an all-ages community celebration/fundraiser featuring performances from local Filipino artists and free food from award-winning Filipino restaurant Magna Kubo.

This event will spread awareness about Philippine history and raise funds for a permanent building space for the Filipino Bayanihan Center - a space that acts as a stop-gap for the community, offering resources, a culturally humble food pantry, gathering space, and community-based health programs.

Talilo Marfil won the Arts3C - Creation, Cultivation & Community Grant from Region Arts and Culture Council and in collaboration with award winning videographer Jon Meyer and Muralist Alex Chiu, he has used his platform to create the first public mural in Oregon representing Filipino History. The mural holds huge significance as Filipinos are among the largest Asian population in most counties in Oregon.

Unsung Heroes

Mabuhay si Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay!
1930s - Nov 20, 2023

“When I leave here, I will become a guiding light for you all. Don’t give up, but continue the struggle.”

On November 20, 2023 Bai passed away while surrounded by loved ones. As she had requested, she was buried soon after passing. Although her body is now laid to rest, her courageous spirit and lasting legacy live on through our struggle.

From the most remote of Lumad villages in the mountains of Mindanao to prestigious universities in the Philippines' national capital and esteemed  international platforms, Bai's fierceness, passion and courage has inspired generations of environmental, women's and children's rights and indigenous rights advocates to take fearless and sustained action.
